What’s holding you back?

I can and I will printsource

I had a meeting earlier this week that was incredibly eye-opening Over the holidays I had let fear and doubt seep into every corner of my being and I could no longer see the possibility in front of me. I only saw the negative. This was brought to my attention and I was told it to push it back down. Fear and doubt are the two biggest thieves of happiness and they were constantly on my shoulder telling me that I wouldn’t ever be successful. The story I was telling myself was that I can’t do hard things. I’m not strong enough. I don’t have the grit. I don’t have what it takes. It is my responsibility to not let that fear and doubt ever get big enough where it clouds what I see and want for my life.

Now is the perfect time to look at patterns or stories you’ve been telling yourself for years. What is not serving you? What are you tired of hearing yourself say? What has been holding you back from reaching your potential? Can you let them go? Are you ready to start telling yourself a different story? I realized that what I’ve been telling myself has been pulling me down and kept me playing small for the past decade of my life. My own limiting beliefs are my biggest hurdle. Now that I have fully realized this, I can get to work changing it.

Our business mentor gave us three things we need to do every day in order to start fostering a positive growth mindset. I wanted to share them with you:

  1. Set aside 20 minutes every day to read a book/blog post/article that is positive, motivating, and inspiring. I loved this one recently.
  2. Listen/watch a TED talk, documentary, movie, or podcast about an empowering person/idea/business.
  3. Take a look at who you spend your time with and minimize time with people who bring you down. Reach out to business owners that are successful and whom you look up to and take them out for coffee. Ask them about their success and what they have found useful to staying positive.

I have realized that I need to change how my brain is wired. My default setting is unhappiness, negativity, and doubt. I need to take action every day in order to change this. These steps are simple enough to help me get going in that direction. I hope that you are able to identify some limiting beliefs you need to let go of in 2018. It’s time for a change.

Happy first Friday of 2018!
